How To Choose Your Wedding Rings

June 4th, 2008

Tips for choosing your wedding rings
Wedding rings are the seal of a marriage and as far as a couple is concerned, the most important aspect to get right; this is a special part of the marriage process and should have great meaning. Do not rush this as they are more than a symbol of love; rings should look spectacular both now and in the future. You can search for wedding ring specialists by various methods, but in reality a visit to their store is required; a couple will want to have rings that are of high quality and not rings that are mass produced for local mall stores.

If you are lucky you might find enough variety but these stores often only carry a small selection of rings; it is in your best interest to find a jeweler that specializes so you will have enough styles and materials to choose from. Of course the man’s ring will be like his bride-to-be, which will need to complement the engagement ring she already has.

The engagement ring is meant to be more stunning than the wedding ring so be careful what you choose. which should not be the case although it is sometimes possible to find them in matching sets that complement each other. The best way to do this is by trial and error, having the wedding band placed alongside the engagement ring.

Fashions in rings come and go but the traditional metals including: (1) White Gold, (2) Titanium, (3) Silver and (4) Yellow Gold; although, increasing numbers of couples are choosing the longer lasting platinum. The groom is often the one that needs a harder ring and that is certainly the benefit of platinum. The number of men carrying out manual tasks is still greater than women; they are still the ones most likely to cause damage to their ring.

The next step is to have the wedding ring fingers measured; try to imagine that neither ring fitting on the wedding day and you will understand why this is so important. You want to be sure the ring will fit correctly; this will prevent it from being too tight or too loose and slipping off.

It is not uncommon for couples to leave having the rings adjusted until close to the wedding day; this can cause the jeweler problems because he may have others to adjust for the same day, so allow plenty of time for this. If you go to the right jewelers, there will be a large range of wedding bands to choose from; it will take time and perhaps even more than one visit so allow for this in your wedding planning.

The most important thing to remember is your wedding rings are a symbol of your everlasting love; this is why choosing the right rings is so very important!

Taking an Online Course at a Christian College

May 28th, 2008

lady.jpgThis is going to be a 3-part series on applying to take online courses at a Christian college.  There are many good Christian colleges where you can take classes taught by Christian professors, rather than getting pounded by some liberal professor pushing some agenda you don't want.  Some people just want to take a history course, a business course, etc.  So, we are putting together some tips that you can use.

  • Part 1 - Before you apply
  • Part 2 - Your application
  • Part 3 - Some specific Christian colleges

If you are a Christian and you have already determined that the best way for you to get a college education is by attending college online then you may be looking for some tips for getting started. Christian online colleges offer the same types of education those other colleges online may offer the biggest difference will be that they actually have the same belief system that you have and incorporate God and Jesus into their curriculum.

There are several factors that you should consider as you begin to narrow down your choose of schools to attend. The application process for any school can be long and tedious when you are filling them out so have all the necessities together before you get started. Here are a few tips to help you with choosing an online college that will meet all your needs.

• Accreditation -The first thing that you need to do is check to make sure that the college you are looking at is fully accredited. It is unfortunately but oftentimes you can run into schools that are not properly accredited and then when you are ready to either transfer to another school or present your diploma you find out that the credits you have earned are non-transferable or not recognized as legitimate credits.

One of the things about some Christian colleges is they are not accredited by one of the nationally recognized, regional acrediting bodies.  Make sure it is.  You don't want to waste any time or money on a course that won't transfer or count for work credit.

• Requiring Help -Another very important thing that you will need to check is if you have problems understand the curriculum or need to reach the professor for any other reason how do you do it. With an online course your professor could have hundreds of students and may be hard to reach so you need to find out what the college's procedures are with regards to needing help.

• Financial Aid - If you are worried about the cost of getting an online degree you may be pleasantly surprised to find out that many online colleges offer financial aid. Check with them first and weigh out all your financial options, they may also be able to send you toward some Christian based scholarships that you may have been unaware of.

Part 2 is coming soon.  We are going to discuss what to do after you apply and some of the things you need to know that might be different on a college application from a Christian collge.

How “Green” is that campus

May 26th, 2008

The Sustainable Endowments Institute has issued the 2008 College Sustainability Report Card, a review of the sustainability activities at the colleges with the 200 largest endowments in the country. You may be asking why this is important when discussing college admissions. The “green” movement has been increasing in this country particularly in the past 10 years and with good reason. The colleges listed in this report card are educating many of the future leaders of this country and having a background in sustainability is critical. As importantly, many students are interested in becoming personally involved in sustainability issues either on a personal level or related to future employment.

The level at which a college is concerned about sustainability is one of the issues that may be important to a particular student in finding the right college for their needs. While such issues as size and location of a college are more obvious, it is the little issues like this that often make the difference between a student finding the best college for their needs and finding an OK college.

Colleges that still have space

May 23rd, 2008

This time of year I get many phone calls from parents and students who are panicking because the student didn’t get accepted to any colleges or can’t afford any college to which they were accepted. Usually this results from having applied only to colleges that were a reach or without fully understood college financial aid. Either way, the question is, what do we do now?

One resource that I refer families to is the NACAC space availability survey that each year lists the colleges that are still accepting applications at this time of year. The student can search by state to find what colleges in a particular state might still have room for them to attend. While this is a great resource for the student who hasn’t been accepted any where else, financial aid at many of these schools is very limited and paying for college can still be a challenge.

I generally advise families to look at all options if there is no acceptable college choice at this time of year. Students might consider taking a gap year if they have a strong academic record but just aimed too high in this competitive college market. For students with a less stellar academic record, attending a community college may be a good option to establish the student’s ability to engage in college level work. There are also options for a post graduate program which is basically an additional year of high school to give the student a chance to improve their academic record or focus on a more realistic list of colleges to which to apply.

The options for next year for students seeking a college at this time are not always as attractive as they might have been with more planning, but there are almost always options for a student to consider.

Want to learn Pharmacy Technical Online

April 21st, 2008

You can quickly learn to be a pharmacy technician online, and all you need to get started is a high school diploma and the ability to self-motivate. In fact, there are some exceptional online schools that allow you to study in your spare time to become a certified pharmacist’s assistant at your own pace. This is great news for working adults and others who need a flexible learning path.

While the course duration can vary from school to school, pharmacy technician training takes very little time, indeed. Within a few weeks or months, you can quickly earn a certificate that will impress any employer; or, you may wish to commit to an associate degree program, which can take eighteen months or more. You can also apply for voluntary national certification by taking an exam from The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. National certification must be reinstated every two years.

Learning to be a pharmacy technician includes both laboratory and academic studies. Classes will cover topics such as medical and pharmaceutical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, record keeping, working with insurance companies and HMOs, techniques used by pharmacists, administrative duties, and the laws and ethics of the field. Students will be expected to know and understand the names, actions, uses, and doses of various medications. Upon course completion, graduates are granted a diploma, certificate, or an associate degree (depending on the specific program). If you already have a background or experience working in a pharmacy or a health care setting, so much the better.

Today’s online pharmacy technician schools are affordable and convenient, and the best ones are accredited by a health care organization that is approved by the Department of Education. Accreditation is proof that your education and certification will more than qualify you for hire with pharmacies, clinics and hospitals across the nation.

It’s never too late to begin a new career path, and with online pharmacy technician schools, the way to success is clear!
